The National Language Promotion Department (National Language Authority) was established ‎on October 4, 1979, under Article 251 of the Constitution of Pakistan, 1973; to remove ‎difficulties and pave the way for the adoption of Urdu; the national language, as the official ‎language of the country; and present recommendations to the government for its usage as the ‎working medium in all fields of life; and to promote cooperation among academic, research and ‎educational institutions towards this end. ‎
